  • Do I have to become a member of AIACE?

Yes, since this hospitalisation insurance plan is part of a group contract concluded with AIACE, it is compulsory for you to become a member of this organisation. Please visit the website http://www.aiace-europa.eu/en/contact/membership.

  • I am not retired yet. Can I sign up already?

Yes, you can sign up at any moment before retirement. However, the insurance will only start at the moment of your retirement.

  • Can my children sign up too?

No. Only EU officials and their spouses can sign up.

  • Am I still covered by the JSIS in case of accident after my retirement?

Yes, you are. However, you are no longer covered at 100% as the JSIS refunds 80% to 85% of the medical costs incurred following an accident. The capitals for death and disability after an accident are no longer covered.

  • What is considered as an accident?

According to the policy, an accident is defined as ‘any unexpected event that harms the physical or psychological integrity of the insured party, of which the cause or one of the causes is outside the victim’s body.’

For example: a car accident or a wrong step on the stairs, as these events are linked to an external cause.

An illness is not considered as an accident, as it is linked to an internal cause.

  • Is repatriation covered?

No. The Accident insurance covers only covers medical expenses related to an accident. This means that repatriation is not covered. However, we offer repatriation coverage as part of our travel assistance plan.

  • Who can I indicate as beneficiary of the death capital?

This is completely up to you. You may indicate more than one beneficiary. The beneficiaries can be changed at any time, provided that you inform us in writing.

  • Can I keep this insurance when I move to another country?

Yes. The accident insurance provides you with a worldwide cover.

  • I already have a hospitalisation insurance plan with AIACE. Can it be combined with this accident insurance?

Yes. If you wish to benefit from a large accident cover, we advise to combine your hospitalisation Insurance with the separate accident insurance. We can help you to look for the most appropriate solution and invite you to contact us to find a tailor-made solution.
